PETA是一個台灣人陌生，但又熟悉的組織，就像Greenpeace一樣。熟悉，是因為在媒體上經常都看過他們的照片；陌生，是因為台灣並沒有他們實體的活動。
每隔一段時間，台灣人透過媒體總能看到女模特兒裸體抗議肉食或者虐待動物等等的照片，這背後通常都是PETA的媒體公關活動。
現在PETA，或者「善待動物組織」可能也要來台灣了。就像Greenpeace、Amnesty International一樣，PETA在國外都可以請到相當不錯的人才，所以議題操作起來聲量大、訊息精準、可以Call for Action，而且口碑的效應又好，最重要的是，質感很高。同樣是裸體抗議，人家就不會變成鬧劇，然後模糊焦點～～
今天在PETA的電子報上看到正在招募亞洲區的一些職位，包括台灣的「活動助理」（Campaigns Assistant for Taiwan）。說實在我看到職務說明及需求時還挺驚訝的，因為他們的工作範圍跟需求，在台灣大概要一定資歷，例如外商公司的公關經理或資深經理或許才可能完全勝任。我對於動物權沒有那麼投入，而且目前還不太可能完全吃素，說實在的，除了「Ability to work from home」、「Ability and willingness to travel, if necessary」這兩項，我自己也都不能保證可以滿足他們其他的需求。
不知道台灣有沒有公關、行銷人才願意轉換跑道到「專業跨國倡議型NPO」試試看？我相信這個職務對台灣或許會造成很大的影響，而且工作的挑戰也不會比跨國企業小，我也很好奇PETA可以給這個職務多少錢。在台灣，這種跨國倡議NPO的工作機會相當少見，對於生涯應該是相當好的磨練，而且回頭還可以去一般企業當CSR Director，一定很受歡迎（我的想法真邪惡）。
如果PETA能夠找到適合的人才，台灣的社運界及倡議型NPO應該就有很多可以觀摩與學習的機會了。
PETA在國外打起KFC (kentuckyfriedcruelty.com)跟McDonald's (mccruelty.com)是完全不手軟，其他在地跟肉食、皮毛、動物實驗有關的企業可能也要開始留意啦。
說到這裡，我一直有一個目標，是在3年內號召全台灣扶輪社，於任何餐會中都不吃魚翅，希望三年後我可以成功，或者PETA可以助我成功。
Position Objective:
To assist PETA Asia-Pacific's work with activists, members, celebrities, and the media in order to bring attention to animal rights issues throughout Taiwan, as assigned by the director. This position is based in Taiwan or Manila.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist with coordination and management of a media plan and an agenda of celebrity events, campaign protests, and other campaign issues in Taiwan
- Encourage and facilitate activism across Taiwan by communicating with activists, encouraging them to be active in behalf of animals
- Regularly update and maintain a Taiwan media database
- Develop and manage cutting-edge campaigns against companies and industries that abuse animals
- Organize and maintain a database of local celebrities, and help develop ideas to increase their involvement in animal issues
- Help send out news releases in Taiwan, make follow-up calls to the media, and work to keep PETA Asia-Pacific's campaigns in the media spotlight
- Assist with the production of Taiwanese versions of PETA ads and the translation of materials, as needed
- Direct media calls to the appropriate PETA representative(s)
- Assist with demonstrations or photo shoots, when needed
- Travel for demonstrations, speaking engagements, and other events, as needed
- Help with other campaigns, as needed, and work on special projects, as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Passion for fighting cruelty to animals and desire and willingness to participate in provocative campaigns
- Outgoing and personable manner with exceptional communication skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Fluency in spoken English and Mandarin and written English and traditional Chinese
- Must be a self-starter who can deal with multiple and various tasks at once
- Ability to deal patiently with the media
- Proven, thorough knowledge of animal rights issues
- Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA Asia-Pacific's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA Asia-Pacific's positions on issues
- Must adhere to a vegetarian lifestyle
- Ability and willingness to travel, if necessary
- Computer proficiency
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
- Previous activist experience preferred
- Ability to work from home
